Call for Entries Open Only to Current Students of St. Lawrence University, SUNY Canton, Clarkson University and SUNY Potsdam For Opportunity to Compete in Canton, NY – St. Lawrence International Film Festival, a newly formed annual event headquartered in Canton, NY will announce the first-ever Associated Colleges Student Film Competition as prelude to and part of its planned premiere weekend to be held October 23-25, 2015 at various locations in and around Canton, NY, USA and Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. 

The announcement will be made by Festival Executive Director Adam Paul at the Canton Chamber of Commerce annual Winterfest dinner celebration Thursday, February 5, 2015 on the St. Lawrence University campus.

Open only to students currently enrolled in good standing at the region’s four colleges – St. Lawrence University, SUNY Canton, SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson University – the competition invites student filmmakers to submit projects no longer than five-minutes in total running time to compete against each other at their respective colleges. Winners and Honorable Mentions will be selected by faculty judges at each school and announced May 4, 2015. Winners will go on to compete against each other in a special screening program at the First Annual St. Lawrence International Film Festival in October, where the Best Student Film will be selected by the Festival’s jury of film industry professionals.

Submissions will be accepted online only via the Festival’s website (www.stlawrencefilm.com) from Friday, February 6, 2015 to April 24, 2015. The competition is free of charge.

“A key component of this Festival’s success will be how meaningfully we engage the region’s students, faculty and staff,” said Paul. “This competition is a way to involve the incredible creative talent of the Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley from the inception of the Festival forward.”

Highlights of the festival will include cross-border tribute film screenings, curated competitive screenings in major categories, an opening night gala, an awards ceremony, nightly parties, and filmmaker Q & A’s.
