The St. Lawrence International Film Festival announces SUNY CANTON as signed on as a Key Sponsor for this year's St Lawrence International Film Festival. SUNY Canton will be sponsoring the Canton Block Party, which will be held on Friday, October 23rd at the Village Green and Park Street in Canton.
"The St. Lawrence International Film Festival will highlight film, arts and culture from our region and well beyond, and also promises to bring tremendous economic benefit to our region and secure Canton as a prominent destination for regional and international visitors," said Lenore VanderZee, Executive Director for University Relations. "SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran, the Canton College Association, and the entire campus community are thrilled to be a part of this world class event."
St. Lawrence International Film Festival, slated for October 22-25, 2015, is a first of its kind celebration of film with events on both sides of the international border between the US and Canada: no other film festival in the world can claim such a footprint and exposure. With headquarters in Canton, NY, Festival events will take place there, as well as in Ottawa, ON, Potsdam, NY and Brockville, ON.
"Headquartering the Festival in Canton was a decision we made partly to ensure our event had a good ongoing working relationship with the colleges. When SUNY Canton stepped up to sponsor the Canton Block Party stage and provide food for the event, it signaled to us - and to our other sponsors - that this Festival has value to their students and faculty, to the community and to the region as a whole," said Adam Paul, Executive Director for the St. Lawrence International Film Festival. "SUNY Canton's support in our first year is incredibly meaningful to what St. Lawrence International Film Festival can be this year and for many more years to come.
In addition to a film competition section, panel discussions and special marquee screenings, the Festival will kick-off with an Opening Gala at Ottawa's Canadian Museum of History with Guest of Honor Dan Aykroyd on Thursday, October 22nd. This red carpet event will feature a 35th Anniversary Screening of "The Blues Brothers," (the only such event Mr. Aykroyd will be attending) a cocktail reception with Aykroyd's own Crystal Head Vodka, and a live performance with the Downchild Blues Band.
The Canton Block Party, a VIP Lounge, competition films and late night screenings will take place in Canton on Friday, October 23rd. The Empire State Filmmaker Award Presentation and Reception, as well as a Special Late Night Screening in Potsdam will take place on Saturday, October 24th. The festival will conclude with an Awards Brunch, and a Closing Night film and party on Sunday October 25th.
